Summary : Very disappointing

This radio looks pretty good, it's fairly easy to use, and the sound quality is OK. But that's about it I'm afraid.

The most annoying thing was the faint humming noise which in the end forced me to take it back to the shop and get my money back. Also the headphone jack was useless, very poor quality sound made headphones unuseable.

There must be something out there better than this. Do not waste your money!

Summary : gorgeous yet disappointing...

I bought this bad boy for my dads birthday present and was totally excited about it as it seemed to be everything he could possibly want in one little machine. When it arrived I was overall delighted with the item, so was daddy!

But he later had a real go with it and discovered how disappointing it really is. Although the design is beautiful, the sound is FANTASTIC, it was the radio that really really lets it down. The wire areal is only a foot long so every single station is hissy and crackly. Also, when searching for stations manually, you can only jump up in 2s on the odd numbers only. so for example stations like 105.4 or 106.2 cannot be found! It was impossible to get any kind of decent reception or any good stations. For this amount of money I would expect it to have a digital readio in it, or at least a better one. When looking up this problem in the manual it suggest you find somewhere else in the house to put it to get better signal which is hardly useful when its a bedside alarm clock, where else other than the bed is there to put it?!

The other annoying thing was the dimming background light. although this was one feature which made me initially want to buy it more, it was actually a bit too sensitive. when the room was totally dark, the background light was so dull it was almost impossible to read the time!

It such a shame that the main selling feaure of this product, ie the radio, is what lets it down. But like i said, the sound quality from the ipod is amazing and it looks gorgeous. Shame about the radio.

Summary : Very poor design

This unit works OK in most respects, although I have had to reset it a couple of times and the switching between CD, FM and DAB is a little slow.

The serious design fault is with the alarm, however. It is easy enough to set, but when the alarm comes on the volume progressively increases until it is at maximum. Grabbing the remote control and fumbling sleepily with the volume buttons brings the the volume down, *but* as soon as you give up the struggle it rockets back up to maximum. Eventually this stops and you can get the volume to a reasonable level, but you can forget about a relaxing start to the day.

That's when the alarm is set on the radio - using the "beep" you just get an ear-piercing klaxon until you can turn the unit off.

I contacted the manufacturer about this (hoping for a workaround), but heard nothing from them.

I'd strongly recommend looking elsewhere.

Summary : Very poor product - stay away!

This product has major flaws

1) Tiny display and fonts with poor backlight and at wrong angle from typical sleeping position (it faces more upwards than sideways)

2) Impossible to set alarm wake up volume in MP3 mode. The default volume is very loud. Gradual volume wake up is obviously not available either

3) Exteremly loud/screeching alarm buzzer sound (impossible to adjust volume)

The only postive is the reasonable sound quality given the unit size

My frustrating search for a decent mp3 alarm clock continues (see my review for the ihome 26). I find it amazing that no one (including the big brands like Philips, Sony etc) have designed a product with these basic features, expecially since they are available on most CD alarm clocks.

The radio works fine.
The alarm clock works as an alarm clock should.
However...
When playing the ipod through the dock the sound quality is that of a badly tuned radio AND there is a quite horrid whine when the Ipod changes track.

Summary : Should have read the reviews first!

First impression, poor sound, but OK just for a clock radio.
Wire aerials are rubbish unless you live next to a transmitter.
Soon discovered that it 'wakes' to the same station you went to sleep with; my Pure Tempus can change the station for you.
Never mind, on to the clock. The clock display is the largest I've seen on a DAB radio, which meant I SHOULD have been able to read it without my glasses.... BUT the digits are made out of single pixels which are so small as to make the numbers so thin that they're impossible to see unless you have good eye-sight.
Then there's the dimming display! Yes it dims when the bedroom is dark, and so it should, my 'Boots' radio did this 25 years ago. But this one dims so much that at 4:00am I had to turn the bedroom light on to read the time!
Finally, I had bought a Roberts "under the pillow" speaker so as not to keep the wife awake all night. However, when plugged fully in, no sound from either the main speaker or the pillow speaker. If the plug was withdrawn half-way then the pillow speaker would work, but what happens if the plug falls out in the night? No alarm, that's what, because the buzzer comes out of the speaker! I guess one item was stereo whilst the other was mono - sort it Roberts!
This was my fourth DAB radio, my Pure Tempus is great, my Roberts Gemini 20 is fantastic, my Pure PocketDAB was rubbish and got returned. But this Roberts Clock Radio has to be the most useless radio I have ever owned.
Sorry Roberts, I sent it back first thing in the morning :-(

I am very pleased with the clock. The time is displayed in large green lights so that I can see it at night without having to put my glasses on, the radio reception is clear, there are two separate alarms (one radio, one buzzer) and it is compact and looks good. And the price is right!

Summary : Disappointing

Agree entirely with the review that mentions the humming noise. I tracked this down to the external transformer/plug which hummed loudly when plugged into a plasterboard wall. OK when used in a socket in an external brick wall, but this is useless if there isn't one near your bedside table!
The worst feature, which was laughable really, was the auto-dimming display. Nice, bright, large digits in a well-lit room, but turn off the light and it auto-dims down to what the good people at Bush have deemed to be a suitable non-intrusive dark room level. Nice idea, but the display instantly becomes unreadable and might as well be off. I searched the simple but limited menu system for a setting which might help this, but to no avail. I didn't buy from Amazon and paid more, but got a full refund the next day. Probably great for use on a desk against an external wall, but hopeless as a bedside alarm. Still looking for something that does the job of a fairly standard digital clock radio but with DAB and a headphone socket.

This is far too expensive for what it is. The buttons are very small and fiddly, and the functionality is very limited. Designed for looks not practicality. Rubber feet marked my bedside table.

Summary : why oh why?

First impressions are that this is a great little alarm clock with lots of features - 20 radio pre-sets, 2 alarm types, snooze function, nap timer... however there are a few pitfalls.

Ever fancies a 45min nap in the afternoon? You can't have one as the nap function jumps from 30 to 60mins.. they really should have provided a function to set your own nap length.

Perhaps the most annoying feature on this alarm clock however is the backlight. If you're finding it hard to get to sleep at night, even on the lowest setting, the backlight shines brightly in a dark room.

If these problems don't bother you however, this is a fairly smart, compact alarm clock... just a couple of improvements however would make a world of difference.

Summary : Not cheap, but worth it for the extra minutes of peace in bed!

We bought this clock for our 3 year old son as a way of trying to stop him rushing into our bedroom as soon as he woke up in the morning (whatever time that might be), and it has been a great success. The clock has been designed in a fun way, with ears that move and eyes and mouth that open and close depending on whether the alarm is set. If you wish you can have an audible alarm, but we find the rabbit being awake or asleep enough. If our son wakes up and the bunny is still asleep he knows to wait till the bunny wakes up! He carries it around with him and it has been robust enough to put up with most that has been done to it.

Just once, when it fell off his chair onto a wooden floor, the mechanism jammed (the ears are a little vulnerable), but I was able to remove the back and fix it. The only other negative point (which goes for many analogue alarm clocks) is that as our son goes to bed around 8pm and we want him to stay in bed till 7.30 or 8am, we have to initially set the alarm to about 7.15 - any later and the bunny wakes up again immediately. Then we go into his room later in the evening to move the alarm to the desired time.

In summary, its quite a bit of money for a clock but its well designed, robust, gives you more sleep time, and hopefully will help your child to tell the time into the bargain. Doesn't appear to be heavy on the AA batteries either.

Summary : It wakes you up in the morning...

This is a simple radio alarm clock and it's pretty cheap too. It's easy to set up, the instructions are pretty minimal! You can set it up so the radio wakes you up very easily (or a buzzer should you require). The radio is a little tinny as you might expect for a cheap radio alarm, but I wouldn't this against this affordable alarm clock. It also has a 'sleep' option, press a button and the radio turns on for an hour as you snooze off, which is pretty handy. Just about the only problem I have with it is that the illumination of the numbers at night is pretty bright, certainly initially i had trouble sleeping with it because it was so bright. I guess I'm used to it a little now and get a reasonable nights sleep with it now.

Summary : Excellent Value

This piece of kit represents excellent value for money.

On the plus side it looks great (particularly if you have a silver bedside phone close by). It also has some genuinely useful features. For instance, the ability to set the radio and buzzer alarm concurrently and independently is nice. It means you can take an impromptu siesta and use the buzzer to waken you for the footy results, without interfering with your regular morning radio alarm setting. Also, the radio has a sleep timer for those who like to float away with the airwaves at night. It also has a nice big snooze button. The major plus though is the large, clear display - easily perceptible through hazy spectacle-less 4-AM eyes.

At this price something had to give, and it is the features you might expect as standard but in all probability will not miss. You cannot adjust the brightness of the display. This may or may not bother you during the night. Also, there is only one buzzer to (not) choose from, and it is akin to a lorry reversing into your bedroom. OK, it'll waken the heaviest sleeper, but the ability to fade it in would perhaps have prevented an early morning heart attack or two. It doesn't really matter; as if you have any sense you'll waken to the radio instead.

On the whole, for the good looks and large, clear display - indisputably worth the lolly.

Summary : Does exactly what it says on the tin - at a great price

I had read the previous reviews before buying this and went with the majority who said it was good. This is an excellent product for the price. You won't blow the roof off your house with the sound but it's perfectly adequate. It's sturdy, attractive and good quality. It would make an excellent replacement to the sort of cd/radio that you would keep in the kitchen or by your bedside and if you put batteries in you can take it outside. The real bonus is that when it's plugged into the mains it will charge your ipod so you don't have to faff around using your pc. I would highly recommend this to anyone and already have!
